Rudi Raab was born eight days after World War II ended in Europe. His father was a Nazi. Julie Freestone was born in 1944 in the Bronx in New York. Her parents were Jewish immigrants. They met as Julie, a journalist, wrote an article and interviewed Rudi, a police officer for it. They live in Richmond, California. In 1950 both lived in Hamburg, eight kilometers apart.
